Jack graduated from Virginia Military Institute Class of 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He graduated from John Marshall High School where he served in the Cadet Corps Company “C”. He was preceded in death by his son, John Minor Townes, IV and his sister, Sara Deane Cheely. Sons, Timberlake Meredith Townes and wife, Anne Maureen and Stephen Fleming Townes, fiancée Sheila Gibson grandchildren, John Phillip Townes, Meghan Anne Townes, Stephen Fleming Townes, Jr., Joshua Ryan Townes and Shelby Katherine Townes.
